KOS- Greece
The last but one meeting of the ESCR Project (ERASMUS E+)
(European Students Climate Report)
Our trip to Kos (October 2018) was the last meeting before presenting the Erasmus report to the European Parliament. The topics were the solar energy and the students’ carbon footprint but we focused on finishing the students report and knowing what we are going to say to the European politicians.
The next challenge for our highschool and our colleagues in the ERASMUS project is to get all the tasks aimed ready in March 2019 when conclusions, including proposals for European parliaments, will be presented in Brussels during the last meeting of this project in Paris (Meudon).
Another issue that has to be done is to ensemble permanent green or sustainable actions in the school, bringing together the work that for long has already been undertaken at the school from differents perspectives (tutorial actions, green school and now the environmental Erasmus Project) in order to consolidate a green calendar and curricula throughout all the studies.

First of all we talked about our carbon footprint and we were quite surprised because we thought that it would be smaller compared to the national average. However we found a lot of actions that we have to take to reduce the problem such as reducing our consumption of meat, buying local products or buying second hand clothes.
While we were talking about that issue we realised that every thing that we do in our daily life has a lot of consequences for the environment. For example, when you buy meat you should have in your mind that breeders have deforested areas to provide grass to the cattle and this happen with other products too.
We have also talked about solar energy. We searched a lot of information about it and we presented it to our European colleagues. Then we discussed about some realistic solutions. It was very interesting to see all the differents points of view because we are from different countries and we have also different problems and climate that could be an obstacle for some countries.
We participated in different activities. Not only a cleaning walk by the Aegean sea path but a very interesting workshop at Athens University about terrestrial temperatures in cities and its influence on the local climate and how to improve the design of our cities.
Besides, we practiced our English and I would like to say that we actually have improved it.
We also met a lot of students coming from foreign countries which allowed a very satisfactory cultural experience and the development of our communication skills.
